Tip of the week # 615

View and paste your copied items from one place (Windows 10) *

I've really fallen in love with Windows 10 and still find time-saving features. (I like it so much I might even develop a separate 60-minute webinar. Watch this space ;)

So what's the fuzz about? Do you use the Clipboard to paste items you copied from the various Microsoft Office programs? Or perhaps you use "Quick Parts" to store and insert frequently used text and graphics? If so, you might want to check out Windows 10's Clipboard feature to save multiple items for later use.

Here's how:

  1. Press WIN + V and click on Turn on. (You only have to do this once.)
  2. Copy or cut, as normal. (CTRL + C or CTRL + X spring to mind.)
  3. Press WIN + V.
  4. If you think you are frequently going to use the text, email address or picture you just copied, click on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the item and select Pin.
  5. Click on the item you want to paste or use your down and up arrows on your keyboard to select the item and press ENTER.

Apart from the usual copying and pasting, I've used it to replace a picture in Word and PowerPoint in order not to lose its size and shape. (Simply right-click the image and select Change Picture, followed by From Clipboard.)

And a special note for Ruth: you could use this as an alternative if you cannot get AutoComplete to work in your browser. Simply type the email address, copy it as normal, press WIN + V and Pin it.

NOTE: When you Shut down or Restart your computer, your clipboard history is emptied, unless you use Pin as described in step 4.
