Tweak, save and apply your favourite view to other email folders (Microsoft Outlook) *

This month's tip is inspired by Paula who wrote "I've been given a new computer! Lots of teething problems." Having bought a new laptop earlier this year I totally understood her frustration, so we organised a one-to-one session at her desk using her own setup.

One of the things we did was tweak her out-of-the box Outlook view.

Here are some ideas ...

But before you do anything, you might want to (temporarily) switch off the Reading Pane. ( View > Reading Pane > Off )

Oh, and why not right-click and stick its button on your Quick Access Toolbar?!

1. Remove columns
Who needs a From column in the Sent folder? Right-click the column heading and select Remove This Column. (You can also simply click the column heading and drag it upwards, towards the buttons on the ribbon. Release your mouse once you see a black cross.)

2. Add columns
Why not add the To column to the Sent folder? The easiest way to add a column is to right-click any of the column headings, select Field Chooser and simply drag the field to your favourite spot.

3. Save your favourite view
Once you've added and removed, grouped and sorted your folder to your heart's content, you might want to save your favourite view so that you can apply it to one of your other email folders. ( View > Change View > Save Current View As a New View )

We called ours Happy ...

.. although Paula was thinking of renaming it Ecstatic ;)

Now you can go to one of your other email folders (CTRL + Y anyone?) and select View > Change View > Manage Views ...

... and apply the Happy/Ecstatic view.
