Clever Clogs tip # 666
5 August 2021

Edit your document while previewing it (Microsoft Word) *

Given the amount of out of office messages I received following last week's tip it feels like everyone is on holiday or celebrating some sort of staycation. So I considered skipping a week, but instead I thought I'd dust off a tip from the archive ... Make changes to your Word document from Print Preview.

If you spot a mistake in Print Preview and wish you could make changes without leaving Print Preview and finding the relevant page, simply add the Print Preview Edit Mode button to your Quick Access Toolbar.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the Quick Access Toolbar and click Customize Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. In the Choose commands from drop-down list, select All Commands.
  3. Scroll down and double-click Print Preview Edit Mode.
  4. If you want, move the button up. (As you can see below I've moved mine almost to the top. It's the second one.)
  5. Click OK.

In future, click the Print Preview Edit Mode button on your Quick Access Toolbar to get the old Print Preview ribbon like it was in version 2007:

For those of you who aren't old enough and don't know what the fuzz is about ;) ... simply uncheck the Magnifier tick box in the Preview group and you can make changes to the document.

PS For those of you who follow #CleverClogsTipTime on LinkedIn ... I decided to stop posting on the platform. If you're a fan ;) ... I'll continue sending this weekly email - way too many snippets to share. And I'll keep adding them to my tip archive.
