Weekly Computer Tip # 378
24 October 2012

Download pictures automatically
(Outlook 2003-2010)

Microsoft's security paranoia blocks automatic download of pictures, which means that beautiful e-cards like the ones designed by nativeBrand or the quirky weekly newsletter of Innocent (yes, I do use email for private use as well ;) end up looking weird. OK, I can of course download the pictures when I'm reading the message, but why not change the automatic download settings once and for all.

Here's how:

In Outlook 2003-2007:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click Automatic Download.
  2. Untick the Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items check box.

In Outlook 2010:

  1. Click on the File tab.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. In the left pane, click on the Trust Center category.
  4. At the right side of the dialog box, click on the Trust Center Settings button.
  5. Untick the Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items check box.

With special thanks to Michael O'Shea of KEEP Consulting for the inspiration of this week's tip!
