Weekly Computer Tip # 321

Triage your inbox
(Outlook 2003-2007)

Do you also get way too many emails? Back in February 2007 (tip_187.php) I told you how you can specify that messages from a specific sender will be displayed in a certain colour, making them stand out from the rest. (Hubby still comes up in red!) But what about making the font of, say, your boss' email bigger so you easily spot his or her messages in your inbox.

Here's how:

  1. Open your Inbox, as normal.
  2. Choose the Tools, Organize command.
  3. Click Using Colors.
  4. Click Automatic Formatting.
  5. Click on Add and name the new rule (say: the boss).
  6. Click Condition and type your boss' email in the From box.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Font and select whatever font, size or colour you want the boss' email messages to have.
  9. Click OK twice.

By the way, automatic formatting doesn't just apply to your inbox. Any Outlook folder or even your Calendar can be saved from being an overstuffed, out-of-control beast.
