Weekly Computer Tip # 309

Customize your Status Bar
(Word 2007)

This week's tip is inspired by a "surgery" session with Rosie. On her list of things she wanted to ask about Office 2007 was how she could see the line numbers in the status bar at the bottom of the Word window, like it used to be in Word 2003. Whereas Word 2007 counts the number of pages and words in your document and automatically displays them in the bottom left, you have to customize your Status Bar if you want to see useful stuff such as "line numbers", "sections" or (my favourite, as otherwise it's a nightmare to spot whether it's off or on) "track changes".

Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Status bar at the bottom of the Word window.
  2. Select (or unselect) features from the list of options.

Thanks for the inspiration, Rosie.
