Weekly Computer Tip # 295
8 January 2010

New year, new decade, new look
(Windows XP)

Hello and welcome to the first tip of 2010. Hope you can all look back on a good break. If you want to hold on to those memories for a bit longer why not mark the start of this new decade by changing the picture that appears on your screen when you haven't used the mouse or keyboard for a specified period of time.

Here's how:

  1. Press WIN+D to display your desktop.
  2. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Properties.
  3. Click the Screen Saver tab and choose My Pictures Slideshow from the Screen saver dropdown list.
  4. Click the Settings box if you want to select a folder other than the My Pictures folder and/or switch off transition effects between pictures.
  5. Specify how much idle time must elapse before the selected screen saver should be displayed.
  6. Click OK.

By the way, if you prefer to use a single picture as your desktop background you might want to have another look at tip 247 tip_247.php
