Weekly Computer Tip # 265

Switching between multiple browser tabs
(Internet Explorer 7)

Anybody who ever attended one of my courses (or is an astute reader of this weekly tip) knows I absolutely love keyboard shortcuts. One of my favourite ones is ALT+TAB (the "boss key") to quickly switch between running programs. So I was getting more and more frustrated with the fact that I couldn't use the boss key to switch between the multiple tabs in Internet Explorer 7. Until one of my clients pointed out a keyboard shortcut equivalent to picking up the mouse and clicking the relevant tab. (Thanks, David!)

Here's how:

  1. Press CTRL + TAB to move to the next open tab.
  2. Press SHIFT + CTRL + TAB to cycle the other way.

You can also switch to a specific tab by pressing CTRL and the number of the tab you want to jump to. For example, press CTRL+5 if the webpage you want to switch to is open in the fifth tab from the left.

By the way, if you've never been to any of my courses you might want to check out our training schedule on course_schedule.php . Dates for June will be advertised shortly.
