Weekly Computer Tip # 181

time-saving shortcuts
(Microsoft Windows)

What I often hear from my course participants is that they came away with new tricks, tips and shortcuts that they never would have found on their own. Same yesterday, when we did our "Presentations made Easy" (aka "Boost PowerPoint beyond bullet points") seminar.

One of the favourite ones yesterday seemed to be how to quickly switch between running programs by pressing ALT+TAB (see tip_21.php for detailed instructions) but that reminded me that one of my astute readers (hello, Jonathan Grant!) emailed me about some great keyboard shortcuts, using the Windows (WIN) key. (The WIN key is the key with the Windows logo on it, to the left of the ALT key.)

Some of them I've covered before, but it won't harm to list them here:

WIN: Toggle to open/close the Start menu
WIN + F: Opens a window to search for a file or folder
WIN + M: Minimises all active windows
WIN + SHIFT + M: Reopens all windows
WIN + R: Opens a Run dialogue window
WIN + E: Opens Windows Explorer (Great keyboard shortcut for those of you who use Livelink Explorer!)

New ones for me were WIN+F and WIN+R ... perhaps I should update tip_168.php? Thanks, Jonathan!
