Roem announces two major European training contracts
Software training provider Roem Ltd – 10 years old this week – has been awarded two significant European contracts.
As the company celebrates a successful decade of business, Roem has won a competitive pitch for a three-year contract to deliver document and records management training to the Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg, France. It has also been awarded a major contract for a leading organisation in Germany.
With 47 member countries, the Council of Europe covers the entire European continent. It seeks to develop throughout Europe common and democratic principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights.
Roem Ltd will provide training services in the specialised electronic content management (ECM) software packages, Documentum and Livelink, as well as general ECM awareness training. The work will be delivered in English and French by the company’s founder, Karen Roem, and her expert associates, Leon Dessels and Martijn van der Kaaij.
Information management training – including the collaboration and knowledge management software Livelink – is also the focus of the second contract awarded to Roem. This work, for a leading organisation based in Germany, follows on from a previous programme that involved Roem in delivering bespoke training for thousands of employees over the past three years.
Both contracts were won against stiff competition and will boost the international profile of Cambridge-based Roem, which specialises in developing and delivering personalised training for a range of software applications. These include the Microsoft Office suite as well as Livelink, Documentum, TRIM and Sharepoint. The company offers participants two very different approaches to learning – either ‘hands off’, using a technique pioneered in the United States, or ‘hands on’ in the traditional classroom style.
Since its inception in January 2001, Roem has grown dramatically. “It’s grown beyond my wildest expectations,” comments Karen. “I absolutely love helping people to make the most of the software packages they have, and I get great satisfaction from that.”
Although much of her work is for clients abroad, Karen’s ambition had always been to deliver training in her own premises: “Happily we can do that now, at the Sun House in Cambridge,” she says. “I still run regular hands-on and hands-off local workshops for Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word – and I very much enjoy being able to do that here.”
