Karen's PowerPoint programme goes into print

Less is more in PowerPoint presentations, says software training expert Karen Roem, whose advice on effective presenting features in a new British Chambers of Commerce book for business.

Based in Cambridge, Karen was among a raft of business experts invited to contribute to the latest edition of The Essential Business Guide. It is a comprehensive resource, containing all the information you need to start and run a business, with sections covering planning, marketing, money, people, law, IT and management.

Although Karen’s training capability through her company Roem Ltd covers all Microsoft Office applications, among others, her section in the book, entitled "Persuasive presentations", centres on PowerPoint. As well as outlining a simple six-step programme to avoid "death by PowerPoint", Karen’s advice is to think carefully about whether slides are even needed for a presentation. "If in doubt," she says, "don’t use it. Many great speeches have been delivered using the power of words alone."

Teaching people to use software tools effectively is Karen’s passion. Alongside conventional methods, her unorthodox "hands off" training techniques have won her a significant following and she is in demand across the world. Karen specialises in Microsoft applications – including the latest Office 2007 package – as well as the specialist collaboration and content management tool provided by Open Text Corporation, Livelink.

Karen regularly runs half- and full-day training sessions in Cambridge, with the next Boost PowerPoint beyond bullet points seminar planned for the afternoon of 4 February.

It's GBP97 (+VAT) only. Sign up today and you could be the lucky winner of your own copy of The Essential Business Guide, packed with practical tips you wish you'd read 10 years ago! (RRP GBP24.95).
