Tips past, present and future

TIPS PAST
This time last year I wrote about Google's free toolbar. It's a tool I use on a daily basis (if only to eliminate those annoying pop-up ads!) so when I had to reinstall my computer on a Sunday not so long ago when some unknown force fried my hard disk, I immediately downloaded it once more! You probably already have your own Google toolbar; if not, go download yourself a copy. (See http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_45.html for further information.)

TIPS PRESENT
Well, they've done it again. Google Desktop Search is a fantastic (free!) tool to help you find your email, files, and web pages you've recently visited. It takes about 1 minute to download (see http://desktop.google.com/) and not more than that to get your head around using it. I honestly feel I don't need to give more instructions than this, but if you want to find out more, have a look at http://desktop.google.com/about.html.

TIPS FUTURE
When I originally began my weekly tips in April 2003, I had no idea how long I would carry on but as it happens, I'm still enjoying researching and writing them. And with 31 pages of ideas and 15 drafts "ready", it looks like I'll be haunting your inbox in the New Year with more tips on how to tame and train your computer. A bit like what Charles Dickens wrote in his preface to the original edition of "A Christmas Carol" ...

I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it.

Well, all that remains is to wish those of you who celebrate Christmas a wonderful Festive Season. Enjoy the break. And thank you for your support throughout the year!

Your faithful Friend and Servant,
K.

Until next week.
