Clever Clogs tip # 720

Announce - or ask for - a break in MS Teams Chat using the new OREO emojis *

When I'm running webinars or online training sessions and want to suggest a break I often use the Clippy with a cup of coffee sticker.

If you cannot stand Clippy, but would like a way to announce - or ask for - a break during an online meeting why not use one of the new OREO emojis, now available on Microsoft Teams.

The OREO emojis will appear in the Emoji panel, below in the compose bar. For those of us who want to keep our hands on the keyboard...

  1. Type a new message, as normal.
  2. Press TAB.
  3. Use your arrows until the Emoji panel is highlighted.
  4. Press ENTER.
  5. Type oreo or oreoyum.
  6. Press TAB.
  7. Press ENTER.
  8. Press CTRL + ENTER to send the message.

There's obviously nothing wrong with using the mouse, but many people find that keyboard shortcuts help them to work faster. And for users with mobility or vision disabilities it can be a very important alternative.

  1. What can you do with F3?

K.

PS Do you sometimes feel there must be an easier way to use Microsoft Office, but you don't have the time to look into it? Are you not as productive as you'd like to be? Why not book a power hour with me! Only 90 pounds. Or do as Anna and book 3 hours and whenever she is looking for help we get together via MS Teams for half an hour.

* Unless stated otherwise this tip is written for Microsoft 365 desktop apps and Windows 10 users, but might also be useful in Office 2010, 2013 and 2016.
