Apply a different design to your presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint)

Microsoft PowerPoint comes with a gallery of design templates to choose from to give your presentations a professional appearance. However,

Did you know ...

In Microsoft PowerPoint you can apply a design from any presentation whose design you want to use, without creating a custom template (common plagiarism amongst colleagues ;-)

Here's how:

  1. Open the presentation you want to apply the design to. (You can apply a design template either before or after you create the actual slides of a presentation.)
  2. Choose the Format, Apply Design Template command or click on the Common Tasks button on the Formatting toolbar and then select the Apply Design Template option in the list that appears.
  3. Select the desired file type from the Files of type list. (For instance "Presentations and Shows (*.ppt;*.pps)")
  4. From the Look in list navigate to the location of the file whose design you want to use and select it.
  5. Click Apply.

The template from one presentation is applied to the other; the color schemes and slide background are applied as well as any slide or title master formatting, text or pictures.

Until next week.
