Time-saving shortcut key to use Save As command (Office 2000 - 2010)

As you are most probably aware you can use the "Save As" command to save a previously saved document in a new location. For example, you might want to save your document in a different folder or on a USB stick. You can also save the existing document under a different filename so that you have two copies of the document; the original version saved in the original file and a second version saved in the new file. Or you can save a document in a different format, for example, one that can be used with an earlier version of Microsoft Office.

Typically, the Save As dialog box is displayed by selecting the Save As command from the File menu (Office 2000 and Office 2010) or the Microsoft Office button (Office 2007). But I bet you are not surprised to hear there is a quicker way!

Here's how:

  1. Press F12

If necessary, you can quickly switch to a different folder by using the icons in the area along the left side of the dialog box.
