quickly move to the end of a range of cells in a row or column (Microsoft Excel)

I'm sure you all know by now that I absolutely love keyboard shortcuts. OK, they have to be intuitive otherwise I won't remember them (and hence won't use them), but there is a pretty instinctive way to move to the top or bottom, start or end of a range of cells in Excel, without ending up on row 65536 because your mouse is more like a shopping trolley. (Going anywhere but where you want it to go.)

Here's how: (to move to the)

  1. end of a range of cells in a column: press CTRL + Down Arrow
  2. top of a range of cells in a column: press CTRL + Up Arrow
  3. end of a range of cells in a row: press CTRL + Right Arrow
  4. start of a range of cells in a row: press CTRL + Left Arrow

Be aware it'll jump to the edge of the range of cells, so if there is an empty cell within your row or column it'll pause. But simply press the CTRL key and the relevant ARROW KEY to continue.

For some other time-saving keyboard shortcuts in Excel you might want to have another look at tip # 70 (http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_70.html) and #37 (http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_37.html).

Until next week.
