Undo your last entries (Or "how to get unstuck" in Microsoft Access)

Judging from the amount of "Out of Office" AutoReplies I got last week, a lot of you are away on holiday. So I decided to cut myself some slack, tweak an old tip and send it a day early so I can have Saturday off to go hiking on the Isle of White.

The trick I'm recycling was "hidden" in tip # 84 (http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_84.html). It bears repeating, though, as most of the people I meet, who are using Access, are unaware of it, even though they've all experienced Access just going on and on and on with its annoying error messages. So it's an excellent way to get unstuck.

Here's how:

  1. Press Escape once (to undo the changes you have made to the current field).
  2. Press Escape twice (to undo the changes you have made to the current record).

Oh, and if you've been on holiday recently (or, heaven forbid, haven't been reading my tips), you may have missed me banging on about the upcoming Mastering Microsoft Access seminar, scheduled for 29 September. Starting with the basics and building your skills to more advanced tasks, this seminar provides you with the database solutions you need to run your business or do your job. And, because everybody who works with lists and databases of any sort (mailing lists, student records, customer lists, medical records) is different, you get my own individual support to help you apply what you learn during the seminar to your own business. What's more, as a weekly tip subscriber you get 10 percent discount (pay just GBP225) - it's now even easier to book as credit and debit card payments are accepted online! Book now - see http://www.roem.co.uk/book_access.html

That's it. Have a nice weekend and/or holiday! (Escape isn't just a button on your keyboard!)

Until next week.
