Top 10 keyboard shortcuts to create new items (Outlook 2003-2007)

Back in February I gave you some tips on how to quickly jump between the various Outlook components, such as Inbox and Calendar (see http://www.roem.co.uk//tip_259.html if you missed it). For those of you who said you really liked them (and for those of you who didn't say anything ;-) I've compiled a list of keyboard shortcuts to create new items.

Most of them you can use in the middle of whatever else you're doing in Outlook. As long as you're not in the middle of drafting an email message.

Here's how:

  1. New Email : press CTRL+SHIFT+M (or CTRL+N)
  2. New Appointment : CTRL+SHIFT+A
  3. New Contact : CTRL+SHIFT+C
  4. New Distribution list : CTRL+SHIFT+L
  5. New Meeting request: CTRL+SHIFT+Q
  6. New Task: CTRL+SHIFT+K
  7. New Task request : CTRL+SHIFT+U
  8. New Note: press CTRL+SHIFT+N
  9. New Office document: CTRL+SHIFT+H
  10. New Outlook folder : CTRL+SHIFT+E

With some imagination all of them - apart from the last two and perhaps the one for a new task request - are pretty intuitive, I believe.

By the way, if you have your own favourite shortcut, let me know. If your tip is selected, I'll publish it along with your name; the bragging rights will last a lifetime.

Until next week.
