Quickly close a dialog box (Windows/Office)

With three days less this month you might just need to save some time here and there to get everything done. ;-) So, today I want to highlight one of my favourite keyboard shortcuts as I still meet lots and lots of course participants who don't know there is an alternative to picking up your mouse and clicking on a Cancel button.

Here's how:

  1. Press the Esc(ape) key in the top left corner of your keyboard.

So any time one of these secondary windows opens that contains buttons and various options through which you can carry out a particular command (referred to as a "dialog box") simply press ESC to close it.

See tip 84 http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_84.html for more details on when to use the Escape button.

Until next week.
