unhide all rows and columns (Excel 2000-2007)

Back in May I told you how to temporarily hide Excel data you don't want to see (see http://www.roem.co.uk/tip_232.html if you want to refresh your memory or signed up recently). I also told you how to unhide the rows and columns to return the worksheet to its original state. Using that method you'll have to know where your hidden rows or columns are. So what if you cannot spot the hidden row or column? After all, the number of rows and columns in Excel 2007 has gone up to over 16000 columns and over a million (!) rows - 1048576R x 16384C to be precise - so you'll be excused not to notice whether its headings jump from, say, column xex to xez.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Select All button. (The empty rectangle in the upper-left corner of a worksheet where the row and column headings meet, i.e. to the left of column A and above row 1.)
  2. Right-click anywhere in the selected area.
  3. Select Unhide from the shortcut menu.

With a big thank you to Linda Dennis for this tip! (And by the way, Tan, nowadays I can get the double-clicking to work.)

Until next week.
